What is A Meeting of the Minds?
A Meeting of the Minds is an online conference of people with dementia and others meeting the challenges of dementia. To bring people together we are using webinar software that you can access from your computer.
The goal of A Meeting of the Minds is to inspire and enable people with dementia to help themselves and each other, and to bring people together in community.
What will we do at A Meeting of the Minds?
Together, we discuss:
Who can attend A Meeting of the Minds?
Although many people who are meeting the challenge of dementia as formal or informal caregivers, professionals, researchers, volunteers or as advocates are welcome to attend A Meeting of the Minds, the webinar focuses on the participation of people diagnosed with dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Bodies, Frontotemperal dementia, vascular dementia, and other forms of dementia.
A participant with dementia may be assisted in the conference by a supporter, such as a family care partner, paid caregiver, friend or other person.
Who facilitates the webinar?
The webinar will be facilitated by Richard Taylor, PhD, and Laura Bowley.
Richard is based in the USA, and was diagnosed nine years ago with dementia, probably of the Alzheimer’s type. Since then he has created a life of purpose by speaking out about dementia, and teaching others about the disease through his book, DVDs and speeches.
Laura is a writer, editor and graphic designer based in Canada. She edits the I CAN! I WILL! Stand Up and Speak Out About Dementia website and is a caregiver support group facilitator. Through Mindset Memory Centre, Laura acts as a consultant and advisor on several projects that work to bring awareness of dementia, erase the stigma, and improve the quality of life for people with dementia.

Together, we discuss:
- What we can do collectively and individually to identify and support more people living with dementia to be advocates.
- Mechanisms to support people who are already advocates (i.e., formal networking, just swap phone numbers, a directory of people to contact) and determine which are the most effective mechanisms to meet our goals.
